Privacy Policy
The short version: Word Lock does not collect, store, sell, or share any personal data. Everything happens on your device.
Who we are
Word Lock ("the app") is developed by Dodo Media LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains how Word Lock handles your information.
Information we collect
None. Word Lock does not have user accounts, does not run analytics on your behavior, and does not transmit personal data to any server we control.
Screen Time & Family Controls
Word Lock uses Apple's Screen Time and Family Controls APIs to let you choose which apps to lock and to display vocabulary flashcards when those apps are opened. The list of apps you choose to lock is stored privately on your device by Apple's frameworks. We never see which apps you select, when you open them, or how you use your phone.
Data stored on your device
The following information is stored locally on your device only:
- Your selected apps to lock (managed by Apple's Family Controls)
- Words you have learned, favorited, and quiz history
- Streak count and progress statistics
- Your appearance and unlock duration preferences
This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
Subscriptions
Word Lock uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions through Apple's App Store. When you subscribe, RevenueCat receives a randomly generated, anonymous user identifier and your purchase receipt from Apple in order to validate your subscription status. This information is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identifier. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details.
All payment processing is handled by Apple. We never see your payment information.
Pronunciation audio
When you tap the pronunciation button on a word, Word Lock may fetch audio from the public dictionaryapi.dev service. This request includes only the word being looked up — no personal information is sent.
Notifications
Word Lock requests permission to send local notifications so it can prompt you to take a quiz after tapping a locked app. Notifications are generated entirely on your device. We do not send push notifications from any server.
Children's privacy
Word Lock does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is safe for all ages.
Third-party services
- Apple App Store — handles purchases and subscriptions
- RevenueCat — validates subscription status (anonymous identifier only)
- dictionaryapi.dev — optional pronunciation audio lookup
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the new policy at this URL.
